Day one finds the riders leaving the Richmond Country Club and heading onto plantation roads, allowing the field to start spreading out. Riders get to enjoy riding through some of Richmond’s most beautiful cane and timber farms before descending steeply into the upper reaches of the Nkobeni Valley, a tributary of the mighty Umkomaas. On the descent the scenery changes from one of eucalyptus plantations to jeep track through paperbark Acacia. The descent continues all the way down to the Umkomaas river where riders cross the river and finish the last section of the ride traversing a beautiful citrus farm. Riders finish at St Josephine’s bridge on the banks of the beautiful Umkomaas river. Cattle trucks will then transport you and your bike back to Richmond Country Club.
Day 2 takes the riders out on single track which will follow the banks of the Illovo River before joining some farm roads.
Jeep track will take the riders to the highest points in the district giving magnificent views of the surrounding farmlands and in the distance the Umkomaas Valley. After this climb the track takes the riders through areas of incredible beauty and in and out of timber plantations as it winds its way around the south eastern section of Richmond. En route there is a super tube to enjoy and a “bridge” to cross on one of the many dams in the area, making them great spectator points. The route follows single track and jeep track and after about 45kms riders will return back to the Richmond Country Club.
Day 1 will take you through the incredible and rugged Umkomass Valley on a trail that will be one of a kind! You will be driven down to the start at the Umkomaas river in a vibey taxi where your adventure will begin. You will run along single track following the course of the river for 6km which will give you a bit of technical running and some unbelievable views! You will descend into some citrus orchards and run amongst the shady trees before hitting your climb for the day. The view and the cold beer at the top is worth every drop of sweat. Following this is another 5km of single track along the crest of the hill, dropping back into the valley. Look out for kudu, impala, wildebeest and other wildlife while weaving through the bush. Then it’s an easy 3km to the finish!
The second day will be a different style of running but just as exciting, with some surprises along the way. You will start and the Richmond Country Club and make your way through the neighbouring farms while following the Illovo river along 10kms of lovely cool single track. The track will open up onto some cane roads and pristine timber plantations allowing you to take in the sights around you. You will be treated to some amazing water tables offering the best of the local farmers hospitality! Your finish line is one for the memory books and you will have to wait and see what it is ! Runners will then be driven back to the Richmond Country Club.
